As of this term using Google Apps for Education will become the focus for homework, after the compulsory daily reading. They can also go onto Maths Whizz to make up their time for the week.
Your task each week is to complete any activities assigned (given) to you during class time the previous week (the week before), or earlier, that you did not finish. Look on Google Drive in your reading, writing and maths folders. We may also use the 'other' folder for science, concept, RE etc a bit later on.
Homework for Term 1 - week 7
Once you have received your log in details for your Google Apps account at school, take this information home and explain to your parents how you log in and show them the things you have learned how to do so far. Tell your parents what you have already learned about safety online (cybersafety).

Remember that you also need to publish one of your finished stories on Google Apps. You must edit your story first in your Draft Writing book. Then create a new document in Google Drive and publish your story. Google will save your typing automatically, but you might need to put it in your writing folder.
Congratulations, if you have found this page you have already done the first part of the homework for the beginning of the year which was to show your parents or caregivers our class blog.
The main, and only completely compulsory, homework for Room 6 children for 2013 is to read for a minimum of 20-30 minutes, every day possible, at home.
Children's books may be borrowed for free from the Rotorua Public Library and St Mary's School Library. Children may borrow one book at a time from Mr. Bach's Classroom Library Collection.
Some children will be placed on the home reading programme, where they will receive books at their level from the Teacher's Resource Room Library, to take home. Many of these children will also receive extra one-on-one tuition, in reading, during school time.
Please see Mr. Bach if you are worried about your child's reading and they have not been put on a specialised reading program in term one.

Homework for weeks one and two is to try and find a newspaper clipping about something that is happening in the Rotorua community.
Homework Week 3/4 - if you have time log into the Studyladder website and complete one maths and one reading activity per visit, at a level that suits you, ask mum or dad or your caregiver to help you.
Written homework option - Week 3: Research (find out) a few important bits of information about an interesting animal. Think about appearance (looks like), behaviour (how it acts) and habitat (where it lives). Think also of a good reason why your chosen animal is special (e.g an Echidna is one of only two egg laying mammals in the world - isn't that right Emma-Louise). Do a little searching on google (web and image search). Write a few sentences about what you have found out.
Written homework option - Week 4: The frogs we have in our class are called Golden Bell Frogs and were introduced to New Zealand from Australia. NZ has 4 species of native frogs that are both rare and unique. Research (find out) a few important bits of information about these native species of frog. What are they? Why are they so special? Why do you think they are so rare?
Homework Week 5: Log in to Digital passport with your username and password and work your way through one of the learning modules - we will be looking at Digital Passport in class if you are not too sure, or get stuck, when trying at home.
Written homework option - Week 5: After looking at Digital Passport and listening to discussions in class, say why it is important to stay safe online and explain the things you can do, or what things you need to remember, in order to stay safe online.
Written homework option - Week 6:
Research (find out) a few important bits of information about the New Zealand flag. How did we get the flag we have? Why do some people want to change our flag? What do they want to change it to? What does our Prime Minister Mr John Key think? Do a little searching on google. Write a few sentences about what you have found out.
